Alpha Omega The Oldest International Dental Organization
Alpha Omega is the oldest international dental organization in the world and was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1907 by a group of dental students originally to fight discrimination in dental schools. 2010 marks another milestone in our storied 103 year history as Alpha Omega welcomes our first female International President, Dr. Charlene Berkman of Bayside, New York. Dr. Berkman along with Dr. Marcy Schwartzman of Vancouver, Canada, who is the current International Secretary, were elected to the Alpha Omega Administrative Committee at the 2008 Annual Convention which was held in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Today, with our headquarters located in Denver, Colorado, Alpha Omega is primarily an educational and philanthropic organization. There are chapters and members in cities and dental schools in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Israel, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand. Alpha Omega represents about 6,000 members worldwide.
Alpha Omega is responsible for the formation of both dental schools in Israel; The Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine located in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv University Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine. The Alpha Omega Foundation was also responsible for dispersing almost $250,000 this past year for projects in Israel and worldwide.
Lectures, seminars and study groups are promoted by local chapters for member continuing education and similar programs are available from chapters in all parts of the world. Alpha Omega recently was the co-sponsor of an educational project in Hungary. The goals of this program were to improve the community dental health awareness of dental educators in Hungary and to field-test home-care instructional classes for the public schools. This was similar to a project done several years ago in Morocco. Presidential Message>>>

UnBelizeable - The 2009 AO Convention
On December 27, 2009 over 450 fraters and their families set sail for the 102nd Convention of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, on the good ship Carnival Valor for a seven day Caribbean cruise. Fraters gathered from all over the world including: South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, Holland, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Israel, Canada and the USA. Our wonderful week onboard ship was ably skippered by our able Convention Marshals Roger Spott, Bruce Braverman, and Spouses Marshals Michelle Spot and Lisa Braverman. After a great sail away celebration from the port of Miami, we got down to real business of the Fraternity with all of the usual pomp and circumstance but with the unusual configuration of being on a moving ship. Our days were started with B'Nai AO, once again under the capable guidance of PIP Ben Williamowsky. Business meetings were held, Awards presented, students got down to meetings, daily Continuing Education both pre-recorded and live, many chances for fraternal gatherings, a special Spouses Event, a Foundation Reception and animated Auction, a lively color war scavenger hunt, a moving and well attended Memorial and Shabbat Service, and the installation of our new officers and our first woman President Charlene Berkman. We were all thrilled to welcome in the New Year under the full moon out on the Lido Deck in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. In between all the vital Fraternity business on board, we had the chance to visit the ports of Grand Cayman, where many fraters enjoyed a tour of the island, Belize, Isla Roatan, and Cozumel. It was a wonderful week Makin' Waves! See you all next year in Sunny Days San Diego! |

Presidential Speech Opening Business Session Daniel Uditsky
Dear fellow Alpha Omegans and friends,
It has been an honor for me to serve as your International President for 2009. Arlene and I have cherished our visits to chapters in North America, England, France, and Israel. We were also pleased to participate in the European Regency meeting which was held in Baden Baden, Germany. We have shared Shabbat with our Alpha Omega family in Dallas, Lyon, Tel Aviv, and Boston just to mention a few places.....One of the most memorable Shabbats took place in Baden-Baden during the European Regency Meeting in June. The 40 or so Alpha Omegans in attendance, their spouses, significant others and children attended Shabbat services in a small Sephardic synagogue. This precious little shul was badly damaged during the Holocaust. It was restored with the help of Jews around the world. The congregation consisted of worshippers of German and Russian decent and spanned all ages and branches of Judaism from Orthodox to Reform. It was a highlight of my presidency that I will remember forever.
