THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF ORTHODONTISTS ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT FOR 2009-2010
Toronto orthodontist Dr. Gerald Zeit is the new president of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Zeit was elected president for 2009/10 at the CAO'sAnnual General Meeting in Kelowna, British Columbia.
The Canadian Association of Orthodontists is the national organization of educationally qualified orthodontic specialists. TheAssociation is dedicated to the advancement of orthodontics and the promotion of quality orthodontic care in Canada. By representing the orthodontic specialty in Canada, it is the official voice of Canadian orthodontic specialists.
Dr. Zeit was born and raised in the City of Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto where he was awarded the Dr. John Knowles Colling scholarship in general sciences before beginning his dental education in 1979. After graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry at U of T, Dr. Zeit worked briefly in general practice before returning to U of T to study orthodontics. Dr. Zeit carried out his research project together with one of the icons of orthodontics in Toronto, Dr.Aaron Posen. His field of study was the effect of soft tissue pressures on tooth position and malocclusion. He also carried out an additional clinical practice project on the use of lingual orthodontic appliances (braces placed on the back surfaces of the teeth).
Upon graduation, Dr. Zeit began private practice together with Drs.Allen Feldman (now retired) and Dr. James Marko. Recently Dr. Zeit and Dr. Marko have been joined in their practice by Dr. Hema Patel and everyone agrees that she is a welcome addition to the practice. Dr. Zeit has been anAssociate in Dentistry and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Toronto for over 20 years. In addition, he is Past President of the Toronto Central Dental Society and has represented the Toronto Central region at the Ontario Dental Association Board of Governors/General Council for 10 years. Dr. Zeit has been a member of the executive of the CanadianAssociation of Orthodontists since 2002, chairing first the Communications Committee and then Membership, prior to taking on his duties as President.
Dr. Zeit is a member of several professionalAssociations including the OntarioAssociation of Orthodontists, theAmericanAssociation of Orthodontists, The Ontario DentalAssociation,Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity and he has been honoured with a fellowship in the Academy of Dentistry International.

Gerry shares his life with his wife, Debbie, a general dentist, and their two daughters, Nicole, recently graduated from Queen's University, and Stephanie, a gifted student in her own right. In his spare time, Gerry enjoys travel, tennis, reading, and has an interest in most things historical.
