Discussion Topic:  In a typical year, the Yamim HaNoraim (High Holy Days) call upon us to engage in deep introspection and heartwork. Given the pandemic, this year we have the added challenge of being unable to engage with this work in many of the ways we have grown to know and appreciate. Rabbi Roland will share general sources and reflections upon the work of this season with a special focus on how to succeed given the limitations of this year. There will also be ample time for Q & A, which will hopefully lead to a discussion about how we turn this year’s Yamim HaNoraim into an opportunity for finding deeper meaning and thoughtful engagement.

About Rabbi Roland:  Rabbi Scott B. Roland has served as Rabbi of Congregation Shaarey Tikvah in Beachwood, OH since July of 2016. He was ordained in 2013 by the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Newton, MA. Prior to and during rabbinical school, Rabbi Roland honed his skills as a Jewish educator and youth professional. He earned his BA from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and his Master’s in Jewish Education from Hebrew College.

Rabbi Roland is most passionate about Jewish pluralism and education. He strives to pass along a model of Jewish life that is living, relevant, and walks the line between challenging and building confidence. Rabbi Roland strives to be an exemplar of Jewish life that is passionate and enthusiastic. He hopes to encourage Jewish living that is rooted just as much in one’s heart and soul as in our sacred rites and traditions.

Locally, Rabbi Roland serves as the Vice President of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis and on the Security Committee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. He is also a member of the Camp Committee of the Mandel JCC and the Board of Directors of the Gross Schechter Day School.
