AO Organizational Update: Message from 2020 International President Alan Moltz

Dear AO Members and Friends,

In these serious times, my wife Linda and I wanted to extend our wishes that you and your families are staying healthy and safe. As your International President, I wanted to share that AO is moving forward as a thriving organization and provide these updates to you.

Innovation:

• Educational Content:

  • Webinars: Since April, AO has provided 14 dental webinars and issued over 1,000 AGD attendance certificates to AO members. Our members from six countries have provided their content to the worldwide membership, which truly shows our international strength and connection. Dental webinars are not new to dentists, but AO now makes them a content focal point as a member benefit. Heidi was able to use our network of dental speakers and offer a robust slate of topics. We will continue to offer webinar content as dentists return to work. You can count on us for expert dental content.

Visit Ao.org for the entire May webinar schedule and register.

Residency Webinars: Ellie Fridman and Rachel Korman, our International Student Representatives, created The AO Dentists Tell All Panel Series that allows members to share their knowledge about applying to various residencies, as well as sharing their experience as practicing dentists with current dental students.

Speakers Bureau: AO will re-launch the Speakers Bureau in June, which will bring world-class dental educators to our local chapters. More information is forthcoming. Thank you to all our webinar speakers and panelists for their time and talents. You are helping us connect with AO members worldwide.

Pivoting:

AO Board Meeting in June: The International Board of Directors will meet remotely on Sunday, June 28th instead of meeting in Chicago, Illinois. Originally, the Board meeting was one of several activities planned as a Regional meeting, but due to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution for our officers and member attendees, AO is pivoting to its first, fully virtual board meeting.

Staying the Course:

• AO 2020 International Convention in St. Petersburg, Florida in December We are still on! Many people have asked Heidi if we are still moving forward with the convention and our plans are steady and strong. In fact, new registrants and hotel reservations have occurred during the last few weeks.

Convention Marshal Gary Scharoff, the AO Officers, and Heidi have communicated and kept watch over CDC guidelines and the state of Florida business guidelines. Since December is several months away, we feel confident that we can deliver a welcoming AO convention, which our attendees have come to expect. We cannot predict the future, but we hope that we can be together in December. On Sunday, May 17th, the AO Officers are meeting to discuss the immediate future of AO, and headquarters will be sending an AO Now member newsletter soon. Please stay tuned for more details.

One of my roles as International President is to visit chapters. Unfortunately, due to this pandemic, Linda and I have had to pause our ability to meet you. We hope to see you in December or on a future trip. AO is an unparalleled organization and now more than ever, we need you with us. Thank you for being a member and thank you for being part of our worldwide community.

Linda and Alan PhotoAlthough this photo was taken on a vacation a while ago, we are currently quarantined in our home outside of Chicago. Happy Mother's Day to all the AO mothers. You are important to us and AO. Linda and I wish you and your family continued health.
